Clinical & Performance Exercise Strategy

What is This Service?

The Clinical & Performance Exercise Strategy is a virtual, one-to-one approach to making sense of your health, fitness, and exercise needs. We’ll work together with the end goal of turning your needs into a clear and realistic plan of action with personalized programming.

As a Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CSEP-CEP), this service is commonly used for advanced goals, or as a bridge between medical treatment and long-term, independent exercise. Specifically for those with a more complicated training or clinical history. Some common examples may include:

  • Returning to structured exercise after injury, surgery, or a long period away from training

  • Managing chronic conditions where exercise needs to be planned carefully (e.g., cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, arthritis, osteoperosis, chronic pain, cancer, COPD, anxiety disorders, depression, parkinson’s, etc.)

  • Planning a race or competition preperation

  • Transitioning from physiotherapy or medical care into independent, long-term training

  • Athletes or recreationally active individuals with recurring injuries

  • Those balancing performance goals alongside health concerns

What is a Clinical Exercise Physiologist?

A Clinical Exercise Physiologist is a university-trained healthcare professional who specializes in using exercise as both a therapeutic and performance tool.

To become a CSEP-CEP, individuals must:

  • Hold a bachelors degree in an exercise science or closely related field, with specific course work

  • 600 hours of supervised clinical experience with an approved professional

  • Pass both a written theory exam and a practical skills exam

  • Engage in ongoing education to stay current with evolving clinical guidelines

CEPs often work in both elite performance settings, and alongside physicians, physiotherapists, dietitians, and other healthcare providers to help individuals safely manage chronic conditions or progress beyond rehabilitation.
